PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema said Wednesday that Zambia\u2019s relationship with the United States is increasingly focused on economic cooperation for mutual benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at State House during a courtesy call by newly appointed U.S. Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Mich Coker and his delegation, Hichilema said the long-standing partnership had endured beyond individual leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe U.S.-Zambia partnership has outlived personalities on both sides,\u201d he said. \u201cThe American and Zambian people have been together for so long and we want to make sure that we maintain that partnership because it\u2019s of vital importance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hichilema said the two countries should build on their historical ties to expand cooperation beyond aid, people-to-people exchanges and skills transfer. He called for greater private sector involvement to boost trade, investment and technology sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have to help each other to share technology. We want to work together and truly being together at the levels of investment and trade for mutual benefit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
