TWO CHILDREN PERISH IN SEPARATE ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS.

Two children aged 12 died in separate road traffic accidents that occurred on October 24, 2025, in Kalumbila and Kapiri Mposhi Districts.

In Kalumbila District, the accident involved a mountain bicycle ridden by a 15-year-old girl of Kisasa area, who had a pillion passenger on board. The cyclist sustained minor injuries, the pillion passenger, a 12-year-old boy from the same area, sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. The accident occurred around 07:00 hours in Kisasa area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened when the cyclist, due to excessive speed, lost control of the bicycle, went off the road, and hit a tree.

The body of the deceased is lying in Wumi Mini Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Kapiri Mposhi District, the accident involved a motor vehicle, Mitsubishi Canter registration number ABX 689, driven by an unknown driver who fled the scene after the incident, leaving the vehicle behind. Also involved was a pedestrian, Prisca Chiki, aged 12, of Luanshimba area, Kapiri Mposhi, who sustained fatal injuries and died on the way to Luanshimba Clinic. The accident occurred around 18:00 hours along Mpunde Road at Chembwe Market in Luanshimba area, off the Great North Road.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver, due to excessive speed, lost control of the vehicle and hit the pedestrian who was crossing the road.

A manhunt for the driver has been launched.

The body of the deceased is lying in Kapiri Mposhi Urban Clinic Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
