Kabwe District Commissioner Lennox Shimwambwa has taken a firm stance against alleged misconduct by construction giant Avic International, following a surprise visit to the company’s camp office. In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Shimwambwa revealed that the visit aimed to address a growing list of complaints from locals doing business with Avic, which is currently undertaking works on the Lusaka–Ndola dual carriageway project. “The challenges range from the alleged mistreatment of staff, short-changing subcontractors, and inflicting damage to our residential areas,” Shimwambwa stated, highlighting the frequent movement of heavy-duty trucks from crushing sites as a major concern. According to the post, Avic staff appeared unprepared and avoided engagement. “Upon arrival, our colleagues scampered in different directions, claiming there was no senior staff to hear our issues,” the DC wrote. This reaction reportedly angered area councillors from Chililalila, Munyama, and Kangomba wards, who accompanied the DC.
