Talks between the family of former President Edgar Lungu and the Zambian government have hit a snag after Archbishop Alick Banda, the family’s chosen mediator, faced online attacks.
According to information filtering through KBC news, the family accuses rogue online tabloids and government-linked individuals of launching malicious attacks against Archbishop Banda, portraying him as a criminal and subjecting him to public ridicule.
The family claims these actions have eroded trust, crucial for the mediation process’s success. They question the sincerity and coordination of some government representatives. Despite this setback, the Lungu family remains committed to honoring the late president’s dignity and final wishes.
President Lungu passed away on June 5, 2025, with the burial site still undecided. Both parties had agreed to resume talks, but the recent developments have disrupted the process.
