The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that the Kasama Mayoral by-election will be held on Thursday, January 29th, 2026.
The Commission has further set December 30th, 2025 as the date for the filing of nominations.
ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga explained that the campaign period will officially open on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025 at 14:00 hours and close at 18:00 hours on Wednesday, January 28th, 2026.
In a statement issued, Ms. Luhanga said candidates must lodge completed and attested statutory declaration and nomination papers before a Magistrate, Local Court Magistrate, Head of a Government Primary or Secondary School, Principal of a College, Commissioner for Oaths, Election Officer, or Returning Officer on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025 between 09:00 and 15:00 hours.
The by-election has been necessitated by the death of Kasama Mayor Theresa Kolala of the Patriotic Front (PF) on Friday, December 5th, 2025.
