The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has apprehended two Zambian nationals, Douglas Njobvu and Archie Duncan McTribouy, in connection with a suspected gold scam worth $224,000. The duo allegedly attempted to sell 30 kilograms of gold before claiming it was lost in transit.
The DEC seized two vehicles, a Toyota Allion and a Toyota Camry, believed to be proceeds of crime. Investigations suggest the pair may be linked to another case involving suspected gold, diamonds, and several motor vehicles.
In a separate case, the DEC arrested accountant Kalumba Felix Sichalwe for possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, including over K44,000 and a Mercedes Benz.
Meanwhile, four individuals in Mumbwa District were sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for possessing counterfeit currency valued at $230,000. The DEC, National Prosecution Authority, and law enforcement agencies collaborated on the case.
