Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Education, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe has indicated that it is not true that free education has compromised on the quality service of education in Zambia.
In an exclusive interview with KBC news via telephone, Dr Mambwe pointed out that the free education policy is delivering better learning outcomes rather than just increasing enrollment and contrary to what the critics are peddling interms of information being conveyed.
He states that the United Party for National Development UPND government has so far devised teacher retention strategies in rural areas, and infrastructure development to support increased enrollment.
Dr Mambwe also noted that the free education policy has also cushioned hardships in that the ordinary citizens can now have more money in their pockets to leverage on other economic aspects.
Meanwhile, on learner performance Dr Mambwe highlighted that for the past three years grade 7 and grade 9 examination recorded an unprecedented impressive results which has proven critics wrong.
He further charged that it is unfair for people to suggest that most government officials do not send their children to public learning institutions.
Dr Mambwe however added that it is not to say that there are no government officials sending their children to private schools while reminding society that private schools shouldn’t be viewed as enemies of the state as they equally supplement government’s development agenda in the education system hence this also anchors on Private and Public partnership.
