The Government of Italy has launched a €1.2 million project aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and strengthening resilience in vulnerable communities across Zambia.
The initiative, known as the Integrated Action for Mitigation Zambia (AIM Zambia) project, began in July 2025 and will run until April 2027. It seeks to promote sustainable, climate-smart agricultural practices and provide communities with the knowledge and tools needed to adapt to climate challenges.
Speaking during the official launch in Lusaka, Italian Ambassador to Zambia Enrico Agostini announced that more than 61,000 people, mostly those affected by drought, are expected to benefit from the project.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Norman Chipakupaku, in a speech read on his behalf by DMMU Assistant Director for Emergency and Relief Makoye Chisuza, said the initiative would empower local communities to take ownership of resilience-building efforts. He reaffirmed the Zambian government’s commitment to collaborating with development partners to ensure the project’s success.
Meanwhile, Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) Manager Luciana Andreini pledged continued support for Zambia through various development initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable growth and community empowerment.
