A senior government official in the Ministry of Agriculture has bemoaned the low uptake of insurance coverage among farmers in the country.
Speaking during the joint training of extension officers and farmers with Mayfair Insurance in Kabwe, Principal Agricultural Officer Swithen Mpondamali disclosed that only 1 million of the 4.3 million registered farmers in Zambia have insurance cover through the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) and described the situation as worrying.
He has since called on extension officers to continue sensitizing all farmers, including those not on the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP), about the importance of insurance.
Sophia Musonda of NAIS reports from Kabwe town.
