The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has impounded a light truck at the Kasama Toll-Gate near Chishimba Falls for dangerously overloading goods and carrying 45 passengers atop cargo.
The vehicle was seized for gross violations of road safety and public transport regulations.
Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali expressed deep concern over the continued misuse of light trucks as passenger carriers, stating that such practices undermine government efforts to promote road safety and protect citizens.
The truck has since been handed over to the Zambia Police in Kasama for further legal action, while passengers were ordered to disembark and seek alternative transport.
And in a separate incident, Mr. Tayali issued a stern warning to a Scorpion Bus driver found speeding into Kasama.
He emphasized that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Zambia Police, will intensify highway patrols to curb reckless driving and enforce strict compliance with traffic regulations.
This is according to a statement issued to the media by the line ministry’s Public Relations unit.
