Opposition New Heritage Party Questions Zambia’s True Independence on 61st Anniversary
As Zambia celebrates its 61st independence anniversary, the New Heritage Party has raised concerns about the country’s sovereignty.
In a media statement to KBC news, Party President Chishala Kateka argues that despite political independence, Zambia remains beholden to external forces, undermining its economic and decision-making autonomy.
The outspoken Ms Kateka cited several factors that compromise Zambia’s independence, including: – Debt burden: External creditors dictate economic policies, limiting the country’s financial freedom.
The New Heritage Party leader emphasized the need for a new breed of leaders with integrity, informed decision-making capacity, and accountability to the electorate. This leadership should prioritize Zambians’ interests, control the nation’s wealth, and promote economic empowerment.
Kateka urged Zambians to take their destiny into their own hands and demand patriotic leaders who prioritize national interests. This, she said, would mark the beginning of Zambia’s third and final leg of independence.
