REPUBLICAN President Hakainde Hichilema has since congratulated the opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and its candidate, Bright Nundwe, for winning the Chawama Constituency parliamentary by-election.
President Hichilema commended Nundwe for the victory, describing it as the outcome of a tightly contested and spirited race.
He acknowledged that while elections produce winners and losers, their higher purpose is to promote unity, peace, and democratic growth.
The Head of State applauded all participating candidates and political parties, particularly the United Party for National Development (UPND), for demonstrating commitment to democratic principles.
President Hichilema expressed appreciation to the people of Chawama for their strong voter turnout and exemplary civic conduct.
The President also recognised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for conducting a transparent and credible electoral process.
FDD candidate, Bright Nundwe, scooped the Chawama parliamentary by-election after securing 8,085 votes, according to results released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
His closest competitor, Morgan Muunda of the UPND, received 6,542 votes, placing him second in the race.
AND PF Kapiri Mposhi constituency chairperson Morgan Mwenya has commended the opposition party leadership for having stood firm despite several barriers being witnessed following the scooping of the Chawama seat by the FDD in the by-elections.
Speaking to KBC news, Mr Mwenya has encouraged the opposition to main their grip even if disparaging remarks have been uttered against them.
Mr Mwenya has further hailed the peaceful atmosphere exhibited in the Chawama political environment with the just ended polls.
He has also demanded that the UPND set free political prisoners who have been oppressed for quite some time.
