PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says the commissioning of the Urea Plant and 85MW Power Generation Plant by United Capital Fertilizer (UCF) is a great milestone complementing Zambia’s ambition to become a regional fertilizer manufacturing hub.
Mr Hichilema, who commissioned the plant, said the integrated 85MW Power Plant will supply surplus power to the national grid, resulting into energy security.
“It was a momentous occasion to officiate the commissioning of the Urea Plant and 85MW Power Generation Plant by United Capital Fertilizer (UCF).
This great milestone supports Zambia’s ambition to become a regional fertilizer manufacturing hub upon reaching self sufficiency,” the President said in his Facebook page.
The plant is a state-of-the-art facility with modern technology which minimises emissions, reduces waste and promotes recycling.
The plant has created over 3000 direct jobs which is a plus to our economic agenda.
“We thank the board, management, and staff for advancing Zambia’s fertilizer industry which will help contribute to national and regional food security.
“It’s also gratifying to note that the integrated 85MW Power Plant will supply surplus power to the national grid, resulting into energy security,” Mr Hichilema said.
He said during the same event, there was signing ceremony for the $ 1.4 billion Urea Phase 2 Project.
“To all investors out there, when you think of investment, think Zambia. Zambia is the best investment destination,” Mr Hichilema said.
