The Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry has clarified that the government is not planning to control prices of essential goods, but rather advocating for fair pricing.
This comes after reports suggested uniform prices for items like fertilizer, cooking oil, and sugar.
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, emphasized that businesses should set prices responsibly, considering the improving economy, stable Kwacha, low inflation, and reduced fuel prices.
He urged producers to pass on benefits to consumers rather than keeping prices artificially high.
The government aims to strike a balance between business freedom and consumer protection, ensuring fair treatment for all.
