The annual overall inflation for March has eased to 7.1 per cent from 7.5 per cent in February 2026.
The slowdown has been attributed to changes in the prices of both food and non-food items.
Zambia Statistics Agency Statistician General SHEILA MUDENDA says this indicates that, on average, the prices of goods and services rose by 7.1 per cent between March 2025 and March 2026.
Speaking during the March statistics bulletin in Lusaka today, Ms. MUDENDA said monthly food inflation dropped to 0.7 per cent in March from 0.9 per cent in February 2026.
She said, by province, inflation for March declined to 6.8 per cent from 7.3 per cent in Central Province, while it rose to 8.8 per cent from 8.7 per cent in Lusaka Province.
Ms. MUDENDA also reported that a trade surplus of 5.7 billion kwacha was recorded in February 2026.
She added that export earnings fell by 1.4 per cent.
