Victims of the Sino Metals pollution in Chambishi have bemoaned the slow relocation process following the tailings dam pollution last year.
Residents’ representative Bernard Njobvu tells the media that about 145 households identified for relocation are still waiting and living in an environment they say is compromised by pollution.
Mr. Njobvu noted that while Sino Metals is at the centre of pollution concerns, the residents also feel neglected by government authorities who could help speed up the relocation process.
He says residents want government to intervene and expedite the relocation to safeguard their health and wellbeing.
And when contacted for a comment, Sino Metals Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sydney Chileya declined to speak on the matter, saying that all issues relating to the relocation process are being handled through the office of the Vice President.
