Education Minister Douglas Syakalima has announced that the 2025 recruitment of 2,000 teachers will begin tomorrow, 21st April, 2026, with an additional 3,500 teachers expected to be recruited by August 2026 after the initial batch is placed on the payroll.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, Mr. Syakalima revealed that government also plans to recruit more than 40,000 teachers in 2027 as part of efforts to improve the teacher-pupil ratio across the country.
Mr. Syakalima added that the Civil Service Commission will publish the recruitment advertisement on 21st April, 2026, with applications open until 27th April, 2026.
He says successful candidates will be deployed to rural and hard-to-reach areas, warning that newly recruited teachers will only be eligible for transfer after serving for four years.
Meanwhile, Teaching Service Commission Chairperson Daphne Chimuka says the commission has introduced a ranking system that prioritises teachers who completed their training earlier, giving them a higher chance of selection.
